Howard Shapland – President and CEO

Howard is marketing and business development executive with BioVenture Development Limited and a certified Lead Auditor for ISO 13485:2016. He holds a Diploma in Business Studies and has formal training in business development, marketing management, business management and product and project development – primarily in the biotechnology industry. He has over 25 years’ experience in the field. For 15 years he held senior positions with the multinational pharmaceutical company Abbott Laboratories (US). During this time he was based in Australia, Europe and the Middle East.

His company BioVenture Development (established in 2009) provides regulatory and compliance consultancy, business and project development in the biotechnology sector. Howard has worked with International Medical Devices PLC, as Regulatory and Compliance Manager to introduce ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 quality management systems to the group, CE mark medical devices and maintaining regulatory compliance.

Professor Scott Glickman – Chairman and Chief Medical Officer

Scott is a surgically trained rehabilitation physician specialising in neurological rehabilitation having had a 30-year career in the NHS. Scott also is an award-winning healthcare technology inventor and assessor (see biographical notes). He invented the IDD system to solve a specific problem for disabled patients with abnormal bladder functions. However, in so doing it became obvious that it also would be of enormous value to able-bodied people in treating their bladder conditions.

Brett Larson – General Counsel

Brett Larson is a Shareholder with Messerli Kramer and is Chair of the Business Services group which oversees the Corporate, Banking & Finance, and Intellectual Property & Technology practice groups. Brett focuses his practice in the areas of corporate governance and succession planning; mergers and acquisitions; and domestic and international transactions Brett serves as outside counsel to businesses of all sizes—from emerging growth companies to large global corporations in a range of health care industries including med-tech and bio-tech. Having represented numerous clients in business disputes, he leverages his experience and background as lead-counsel in a broad range of complex litigation and transactional settings to develop sound business and legal strategies aimed at avoiding litigation, and having a well-prepared plan when necessary. Brett serves on the firm’s Board of Directors and as an advisor to the boards of multiple nonprofit organizations.

Terry Kapsen – Vice President Business Development

Senior Executive / Entrepreneur in Medical Devices and Health & Fitness. Terry is a seasoned leader of hardware/software engineering, global sales, marketing, manufacturing, and service teams through start-up, growth, and exit stages of business. Terry Co-founded New Leaf Health and Fitness, a consumer products and services business aimed at providing personalized programs for weight management, cardiovascular programs for weight management, cardiovascular fitness, and athletic performance that was acquired by a major North American health and fitness chain.
