Clinician FAQs
Practical answers about the dtb-instiller™ intermittent for healthcare professionals
What is the dtb-instiller™ intermittent?
The dtb-instiller™ intermittent is a single-use urinary catheter designed for bladder drainage followed by delivery of prescribed intravesical therapy into the emptied bladder. It combines these functions in one device, with a separate lumen for each. Use should follow the current Instructions for Use (IFU) and the prescribed treatment plan.
Why does the device have two separate lumens?
One lumen drains urine, while the other provides a dedicated pathway for prescribed intravesical therapy. This keeps drainage and instillation on distinct pathways, rather than delivering the therapy back through the drainage lumen. The design supports a clear drainage-and-instillation workflow; appropriate infection-prevention practice remains essential.
What does “Drain. Close. Instil.” mean?
This describes the device’s three-stage workflow: drain the bladder, close the urine-drainage eyelets using the slider and sleeve, then instil the prescribed therapy through the dedicated lumen. Closing the eyelets helps limit immediate loss of therapy through the drainage pathway. Follow the IFU and product training for the full handling procedure.
Which syringe connection does the dtb-instiller™ use?
The instillation lumen has a dedicated syringe connector designed to identify the intended therapy connection and reduce the potential for misconnections. The syringe must have the matching connection. Check the current IFU and product information for compatible syringes and accessories before preparing treatment; compatibility with a standard syringe should not be assumed.
Can the dtb-instiller™ intermittent be reused?
No. The dtb-instiller™ intermittent is a single-use device. Use a new device for each procedure and follow the IFU and local clinical-waste procedures after use. Cleaning or reprocessing does not make a single-use device suitable for another procedure.
Which therapies can be given through the device?
The device delivers prescribed intravesical therapy; it does not determine the medicine, dose, volume or dwell time. These remain part of the clinician’s treatment plan. Check the current IFU, medicine information and local protocol for compatibility and patient suitability. Direct bladder administration does not eliminate systemic absorption or medicine-related adverse effects.
How can our team request training or product support?
Contact UroPharma to arrange a clinical briefing or ask about the dtb-instiller™ intermittent. Manfred Sauer UK can assist with product demonstrations, in-service training, availability and UK ordering enquiries. Before introducing the device into your service, obtain the current IFU and ensure users receive appropriate product training.
